The pay scale for a Punjab civil judge ranges from 27,700 INR to 44,770 INR. It also includes a dearness allowance, travel allowance, and other allowances as authorized by the Punjab government. However, the pay scale is subject to change from time to time.

Punjab Judiciary Examination Eligibility Criteria 2022

Detailed information on the eligibility criteria for the Punjab Judiciary PCS is given below. Candidates who meet the necessary criteria are eligible to submit the application form for appearing in the examination.

Given below is the Judiciary Exam Eligibility announced for the recruitment of Civil Judge in Punjab:

Essential Qualification

  • Candidates must possess, as of 10/10/2022, a Degree of Bachelor of Laws of any University incorporated by Law in India or a Degree of Bachelor of Laws of Punjab University (undivided), The Dacca University, The Tribhuwan University, Nepal, The Sind University or of The Rangoon or Mandalay University in Burma, or should be a Barrister of England or Ireland or member of the Faculty of Advocates of Scotland.
  • The expression “Degree of Bachelor of Laws” means a degree entitling a candidate to be enrolled as an advocate under the Advocate Act, 1961, and the rules made there. 5.2) Punjabi up to Matric or its equivalent Standard.
  • Aspirants must have Punjabi skills till Matric or any equivalent.

Nationality

  • Aspirants must be Indian Citizens or
  • Candidates must be a subject of Bhutan or
  • Aspirants must be a Nepali citizen or
  • The candidate must be a person who is of Indian origin and has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zaire, Malawi, and Zambia with the intent of settling on a permanent basis in India or
  • An aspirant must be a Tibet refugee who entered India before the date of 1st January 1962 with the intent of settling on a permanent basis in India.

Apart from Indian candidates, others are required to provide an eligibility certificate issued by the Indian Government in order to obtain the appointment letter for the position.

Age Limit

  • Candidates should not be below 21 years and above 37 years of age on the last date of submission of Online application Forms i,e,10/10/2022.
  • The upper age limit for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes of all States and Backward Classes only of Punjab shall be up to 42 years.
  • The upper age limit may be relaxed up to 45 years for Punjab Government employees, its Boards/Corporations/Commissions and Authorities employees, and all States/ Central Government employees.
  • Ex-servicemen of Punjab Domicile shall be allowed to deduct the period of his service in the Armed Forces of Union from his actual age. Suppose the resultant age does not exceed the maximum age limit prescribed for direct appointment to such a vacancy in the Service Rules concerned by more than three years. In that case, they shall be deemed to satisfy the condition regarding the age limit.
  • The upper age limit is also relaxed up to 42 years for Widows, Divorcees ladies and certain other Categories of Women.
  • The upper age limit is also relaxed up to 47 years for Physically Handicapped persons within Punjab's domicile.
  • The upper age limit for Divorced women, widows and other specific categories of women is relaxed until 42 years.
  • Allowances in terms of age limit are offered to the ex-servicemen of the Domicile of Punjab.

Punjab Judiciary Preliminary Examination Pattern 2022

  • The duration of the entire examination is 2 hours.
  • The question pattern is objective, with 125 multiple-choice questions.
  • Each question shall carry 4 marks.
  • The total score assigned to the prelims is 500.
  • Each wrong answer leads to the deduction of 0.20% of the score assigned per question.
  • The topics include current events, aptitude, main law subjects, and constitutional history.

Note: No candidate shall be allowed to appear in the Main Examination unless he/she secures a minimum of 150 marks (read 100 marks for all reserved category candidates) in the Preliminary Examination out of 500 marks. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination shall not be counted towards the final result.

Punjab Judiciary Mains Examination Pattern 2022

  • There are five papers under the Punjab Judiciary Main Examination.
  • Each written paper shall be of three hours duration. Papers I to IV shall carry 200 marks each.
  • Paper V shall carry 150 marks, of which 100 marks for essay writing and 50 for language and grammar.
  • The duration of each paper is 3 hours.
  • The format of the Punjab Judiciary Main Examination is narrative.
  • All the papers are conducted in English except for the language paper.
  • The minimum qualifying marks in the language paper Punjabi (Gurmukhi Script) shall be 33%.
  • The standard of the language paper Punjabi (Gurmukhi Script) will be of Matriculation Examination of the Punjab School Education Board or equivalent thereto.

Punjab Judiciary Viva Voce Pattern 2022

  • The Viva-Voce shall carry 100 marks, and the final result shall be prepared on the basis of the Grand Total of the marks obtained by the candidates in the Main Written Examination and the Viva-Voce.
  • Only the candidates securing at least a 50% score on all the written papers are eligible for the viva voce.
  • The Viva-Voce shall relate to matters of general interest and is intended to test the candidate's alertness, intelligence and general outlook.
  • The Viva Voce is conducted in the English language.
