Summary: The National Testing Agency (NTA) publishes the JEE Main exam pattern on its official website on an annual basis because the exam is only held once a year and consists of two papers: Paper 1 (B.E, B.Tech) and Paper 2 (Computer Science) (B.Arch or B.Plan). The authority has not yet released a schedule or details for the current academic year. Any information released by the authority will be updated on this page. You can currently refer to the JEE Main 2022 exam pattern on this page for reference.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made a few changes to the JEE Main Paper 2 Exam Pattern. As per the new exam pattern, section B will also have a negative marking from this year.

Getting a clear knowledge of JEE Main Paper 2 exam pattern plays a vital role in securing good grades in the entrance exam. So, it consists of two parts, i.e., Paper 2A for B. Arch programs and Paper 2B for B.Plan programs.

Analysis of JEE Main 2023 Paper 2 Exam Pattern?

Last year, the JEE Main Paper 2 Exam was conducted in two sessions, i.e., 23 June 2022 and 30 July 2022.

This year, the dates for the JEE Main Paper 2 exam is still tentative.

The question paper included three sections: Mathematics, Aptitude, and drawing section. The exam is conducted for a total of 400 marks. 

As said above, section B of both B. Arch and B. Plan will have a negative marking of -1 mark for each wrongly answered question.

Both B.Arch and B.Planning papers are conducted online except for the Drawing section in B.Arch. The drawing part is conducted in offline mode, i.e., pen and paper mode

  • Paper 2A will have 82 questions, while paper 2B will have 105 questions.
  • Each subject shall include 20 MCQs and ten numerical questions. Out of 10, you need to attempt only five numerical questions.
  • Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Plan) will be conducted separately for 400 marks each.
  •  The exam shall be conducted in 13 languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

JEE Main 2023 Paper 2 Exam Pattern for B.Architecture

According to the JEE Main Paper 2 Syllabus, you will be tested mainly on mathematics, aptitude, and drawing in the B. Arch entrance exam.

The question paper will have 82 questions, including 30 questions (20 MCQs & 10 Numerical Value Questions) from mathematics, 50 questions from aptitude, and two questions on drawing.

Each question carries four marks, and there is a negative marking for both Sections A and B of the mathematics section.

JEE Main 2023 B. Arch Exam Pattern: Tie-Breaking Procedure

If you and other aspirants score the same marks in the JEE Main Paper 2 exam, the NTA will follow the tie-breaking procedure as explained below while preparing the merit list:

  • Authorities will consider those who have NTA Score in the mathematics section
  • High NTA Score in the aptitude section
  • High NTA Score in the drawing section
  • The one with fewer wrong answers in all subjects of the test.
  • The NTA will consider the one with fewer wrong answers in the Aptitude Test.
  • The one with fewer wrong answers in the mathematics section.
  • Those who are senior in age will be given first preference.
  • Application number in ascending order

JEE Main 2023 Paper 2 Exam Pattern for B.Planning

If you are interested in pursuing B. Planning programs, you have to appear for the JEE Main Paper 2B.

The question paper includes 105 questions, and each question carries four marks. Also, there is a negative marking of -1 mark for each wrongly answered question.

JEE Main 2023 Paper 2B Exam Pattern: Section-wise Weightage

According to the JEE Main Paper 2 Exam pattern, the mathematics section includes 30 questions (20 MCQs and ten numerical value questions), 50 questions from aptitude, and 25 questions from the planning section.

The exam is conducted for a total of 400 marks. In the mathematics section, out of 30 questions, you have to attempt only 25 questions.

JEE Main 2023 Paper 2 Marking Scheme

Section A and Section B of the mathematics section will also have negative marking forms this year.

  • For every correct answer, you will be awarded +4 marks.
  • For every wrong question, you will lose a -1 mark.
  • And, no marks will be awarded or detected for un-attempted questions.
