Summary: The National Institute of Design (NID) will soon commence the online registration process for NID DAT 2023. Aspirants seeking admission to BDes and MDes programs on NID campuses can register for NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) 2023 online on the official website at admissions.nid.edu. The NID DAT 2023 prelims exam will be conducted tentatively in the first week of January. In this article, we shall take you through the NID DAT 2023 eligibility criteria and other details.

The National Institute of Design (NID) every year conducts an entrance exam called the Design Aptitude Test (DAT). This entrance exam is followed by a Situation Test and a Personal Interview Round.

There are around 100 seats for the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program across all the NIDs combined.

The National Institute of Design (NID) provides a Bachelor in Design program at its 3 campuses i.e. NID Ahmedabad, NID Bangalore, and NID Gandhinagar.

NID also provides a Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD) in their Andhra Pradesh (AP), Haryana, Madhya Pradesh (MP), and Assam Campuses.

This entrance exam is conducted in 3 stages:

  • Stage 1:- NID DAT (Prelims) - Pen & paper-based written test 
  • Stage 2:- NID DAT (Mains) – Written Exam
  • Stage 3:- Studio Test and Personal Interview 2022

 The eligibility criteria will be based on the various Parameters that are: -

NID 2023 B.Des Eligibility Criteria

The Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program is a 4-year bachelor's program at NID (National Institute of Design).

For the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program every year NID Ahmedabad campus conducts a Design Aptitude Test (DAT) for the young talented students to get admission in one of the most prestigious and premium Design Institute of India.

This year a total of 100 seats have been introduced by the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad for the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Program. For overseas candidates, there is a reservation of 15 seats for the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program.

There is an unavoidable foundation program of 1 year for the candidates who have taken admitted in the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) course at the National Institute of Design (NID).

Upon completion of the foundation program, the candidate will be assigned a discipline exclusively on his or her performance during the past 1 year and on the number of seats accessible in the desired discipline.

The medium of directions and comparability at NID (National Institute of Design) is English.

NID 2023 Eligibility for Bachelor of Design

Before proceeding with the Online Registration Form for NID Exam, it is important to check whether you meet the eligibility criteria or not.

Below mentioned are the eligibility criteria that must be fulfilled by all the students applying for this course.

Age Limit

The upper age limit for the candidates for the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) course is 20 years as of 30 July 2021. The reserved category candidates will get an age relaxation of 3 years in the given upper age limit.

  • The General Category candidates who are born on or before 1st July 2001 are not eligible to apply for this Bachelor's program.
  • The Reserved category (OBC - NCL, SC, ST, and PH) candidates who are born on or before 1st July 1996 are not eligible to apply for this Bachelor Programme.

Educational Qualification

The candidates who have already completed their 10 + 2 (Higher Secondary) from AISSCE / IB / ICSE or from any recognized board during the academic year 2022 will be eligible to apply for the NID entrance exam.

The candidates appearing for their 10 + 2 (higher secondary) are also eligible to apply for this examination.

Some of the examinations that are considered identical to class 12 are as follows:

  • Central or state board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities conducts a final examination of the 10 + 2 system aiuweb.org.
  • A board or university recognized by the Association of Indian Universities conducts an Intermediate or 2-year Pre-University examination.
  • The final year examination of the 2-year course at the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy (NDA).
  • The National Institute of Open Schooling conducts senior secondary school examinations with at least 5 subjects.
  • An examination conducted by any public school, board, or university in India or in a foreign country, that is recognized as equivalent to the 10 + 2 system by the AIU.
  • H.S.C. vocational examination.
  • The advanced (A) level of the general certificate education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka)
  • Cambridge University conducts a high school certificate examination or International Baccalaureate Diploma at the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
  • The candidates, who have completed their 10 + 2 or equivalent examination from outside India or from a board or university that is not specified in the above list, must compulsorily submit a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities in this regard.

NID 2023 M.Des. Eligibility Criteria

The Master of Design (M.Des) is a 2.5 years Master's program at the National Institute of Design (NID). For the Master of Design (M.Des) program every year NID Ahmedabad, NID Bengaluru, and NID Gandhinagar campus conduct a Design Aptitude Test (DAT) for the young talented students to get admission in one of the prestigious and premium Design Institute of India.

The candidates who are applying to the Masters of Design (M.Des) Programme can apply to a maximum of 2 disciplines out of the above-mentioned disciplines.

Once the application is received for one discipline then you can’t apply for any other discipline.

After receiving the application you will not be able to apply or transfer to any other discipline at any stage of application or admission or during the course.

NID 2023 Eligibility Criteria for Master Of Design

Below mentioned are the eligibility criteria that must be fulfilled by all the candidates applying for the Master of Design (M.Des) program through the NID Entrance Exam.

Age Limit

The upper age limit for the candidates for the Masters of Design (M.Des) course is 30 years as of 30 July 2021. The reserved category candidates will get an age relaxation of 3 years in the given upper age limit.

  • The General Category candidates who are born on or before 1st July 1991 are not eligible to apply for this Master's program.
  • The Reserved category (OBC - NCL, SC, ST, and PH) candidates who are born on or before 1st July 1990 are not eligible to apply for this Masters Programme.

Educational Qualification

There are the following conditions that the candidates have to fulfill before applying for the Master of Design Programme.

The candidates should have completed or should be appearing for the following, before July 2021:

  • The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree under the 10 + 2 + 4 Programme. The candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline, from any recognized University or Institute across India.
  • The candidate should have a degree or Diploma in Design from any recognized University or Institute across India under the 10 + 2 + 4 Programme.

(or)

The candidates should either have completed or should be appearing in the following, before July 2021. The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from any recognized Institute or University recognized across India under the 10 + 2 + 3 program.

Note:

An Equivalence Certificate must necessarily be obtained by the candidate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, prior to admission (website: www.aiuweb.org), in case the candidate has obtained the degree/certificate from any University/Board of any foreign country.

NID 2023 Eligibility Criteria for GDPD Candidates

The Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD) is a 2-semester Foundation course. The Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD) is further followed by 6 semesters of specialized studies in any of the following 3 disciplines offered under GDPD:

  • Industrial Design
  • Communication Design
  • Textile & Apparel Design

This year only the applications for 60 seats have been invited for the GDPD program for the 2021-22 session. The eligibility criteria for GDPD (Graduate Diploma Program in Design) candidates for NID 2021 is similar to the eligibility of B.Des.

The candidates have to give a common Design Aptitude Test (DAT) to get admission to NID Vijayawada and NID Ahmedabad. If the candidate chooses to get admission to the NID Vijayawada campus then they have to give more examinations other than Design Aptitude Test (DAT) which will be conducted by NID Vijayawada only.

NID 2023 Eligibility Criteria for Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD)

Below mentioned are the eligibility criteria that must be fulfilled by all the candidates applying for this course.

Age Limit

The upper age limit for the candidates for the (Graduate Diploma Program in Design) (GDPD) course is 20 years as of 30 July 2021. The reserved category candidates will get an age relaxation of 3 years in the given upper age limit.

  • The General Category candidates who are born on or before 1st July 2001 are not eligible to apply for this Diploma program.
  • The Reserved category (OBC - NCL, SC, ST, and PH) candidates who are born on or before 1st July 1996 are not eligible to apply for this Diploma Programme.

Educational Qualification

The candidates who have already completed their 10 + 2 (Higher Secondary) from AISSCE / IB / ICSE or from any recognized board during the academic year 2020 - 2021 will be eligible to apply for the academic year 2019 - 2020.

The candidates appearing for their 10 + 2 (higher secondary) are also eligible to apply for this examination.

NID 2023 Eligibility Criteria for Overseas Category

Candidates who have citizenship of any country other than the Republic of India are eligible to apply for this examination under the overseas candidates' category. In B.Des (Bachelor of Design) and M.Des (Master of Design) programs, overseas candidates hold 15% of the extra seats that are allotted by the NID (National Institute of Design).

  •  The Non-Residents of India (NRIs) candidates have to apply as citizens of India only.
  • The candidates holding a foreign passport with a valid PIO (Person of Indian Origin) or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) status can apply under any of the categories i.e. either the ‘Indian’ or ‘Overseas’ category. The candidates applying under the overseas category have to pay fees equivalent to foreign citizens only or if they apply under the Indian category students then they have to pay the fees equivalent to Indian citizens.
  • The overseas candidates can only apply in online mode for the B.Des (Bachelor of Design) or M.Des programs. The official website for admission in this category is admissions.nid.edu.
  • The candidates who have opted for the overseas category can give the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) at the Ahmedabad campus only. The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is followed by the stage 2 and stage 3 examinations.
  •  The NID Admit card will be available for download at the official website and it will be the responsibility of the candidate to take a print of the same.

The candidates should make the original documents and the attested copies thereof as under:

  • The candidates have to submit the Attested copy of their Passport.
  • In the case of B.Des candidates, the attested copies of mark sheets of SSC and HSC
  • In the case of M.Des candidates, the attested copies of mark sheets of SSC, HSC, completed years of graduation along with degree certificate / provisional certificate/passing certificate.
  • If the candidate is from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), an equivalence certificate needs to be produced prior to the admission process.

Candidates who have citizenship of any country other than the Republic of India are eligible to apply for this examination under the overseas candidates' category. In B.Des (Bachelor of Design) and M.Des (Master of Design) programs, overseas candidates hold 15% of the extra seats that are allotted by the NID (National Institute of Design).

Before starting the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) or Masters of Design (M.Des) program, the candidate has to submit his or her student visa for the duration of the course at NID.

In case the selected candidates are unable to pay the required amount of fees or fail to submit the relevant documents before registration then their application will be canceled.

The seats which are left vacant will not be converted into any other category and will eventually be invalid for any category student.
