Personal Interview or Viva-voce is the third and final stage in the selection process for the Judicial Services Examination. Your interview score cumulatively with the Mains exam decides your merit in the final list.

Typically, ten times the number of notified vacancies is called for this last step. As a result, in a competitive environment, the interview might be a "make it or break it" decision to gain a position in the court system.

Worried about what authorities could ask questions in the Judiciary Interview and clear it with a good score? Well, this post shall provide you with a few tips and tricks from experts of Judiciary Gold and previous year Judiciary Exam toppers.

How to Prepare for Civil Judge Interview 2022?

Each of your preparation strategies can vary; however, tips by experts build your confidence and secure a good score. Following are the tips that you must keep in mind while preparing for the Judiciary Examination:

Revise your Law

  • You must have heard everyone say that interview is not about testing your knowledge as the previous two stages of the selection process have already been done.
  • Ensure you don't wrongly answer the questions and thoroughly revise all the law subjects that are part of the syllabus.

Keep track of relevant current affairs.

  • Personal Interviews offer great scope for the interview board to test your general awareness about recent happenings, legal developments, and your opinion on these.
  • Keep track of the news of national importance or any particular news to the state you appear for.
  • You must also be aware of the landmark case laws of the Apex Court and the High Court under which you appear for the viva voce.

Take Mock Interview Sessions

  • Personal interviews are conducted in high-pressure atmospheres.
  • It is always advisable to practice mock interview sessions under similar settings to test yourself and get acquainted with the process.

Practice explaining the law precisely.

  • No matter how much ever you know the law, you will always be expected to give a short yet apt answer to the questions put up by the interview board.
  • Practice summarising your knowledge on any topic of law in minimum words in advance.

Dress smartly and neatly

  • You will make your first and biggest impression on the board by the way you are looking. So, make sure that you dress up formally, just as they call “officer like”.
  • Men can wear suits, shirts and trousers along with a tie, and women can opt for their case or pantsuit or even a saree. Opt for light colours and ensure that you look prim and proper from head to toe.

Be well-versed with details on your employment/ educational background

  • The board is often seen asking candidates questions about their previous or current job/employment. For example: if a candidate is a practising advocate, the board can ask questions about their practice area and then details from those laws.
  • Being well versed in laws from your educational background would help you. For example, if a candidate holds a master's degree, they can be asked about their dissertation topic.

Language

  • Contrary to popular belief, having a command of the English language is not a prerequisite to clear interviews for judicial services. You can speak either in English or Hindi, whichever you are more comfortable with.
  •  If you know both languages, it is advised to answer in the language you are asked. This can help you develop a better connection with the interview board.

Think before you answer

  • Every time you are asked a question, I strongly recommend you to pause a few seconds, formulate an answer in your mind and only then answer it.
  • This will minimise the possibility of error and will also convey a good impression.

Keep a smiling face and maintain eye contact.

  • When you are in front of the interview board, make sure to keep a smile on your face. This will make you look relaxed and confident.
  •  Do not forget to maintain eye contact with the interviewer/(s) while answering any question.

Apologise for not knowing an answer

  •  If you cannot recall answering any question, rather than attempting to answer wrongly, politely apologise for not reidentifying correctly.
  •  This method will not attract negative marking as the interview board understands that one cannot answer all their questions.
