• No matter how much ever you know the law, you will always be expected to give a short yet apt answer to the questions put up by the interview board.

Dress smartly and neatly

• You will make your first and biggest impression on the board by the way you are looking. So, make sure that you dress up formally, just as they call “officer like”.
• Men can wear suits, shirts and trousers along with a tie, and women can opt for their case or pantsuit or even a saree. Opt for light colours and ensure that you look prim and proper from head to toe.

Prepare greetings and your introduction.

• You should always be ready with your greetings and a brief introduction about yourself which the Board usually asks as a first question. This helps make a confident start and look prepared, which is always appreciated.
• “Good day, Sir/Madam”, confidently states to the panel.

Be well-versed with details on your employment/ educational background

• The board is often seen asking candidates questions about their previous or current job/employment. For example: if a candidate is a practising advocate, the board can ask questions about their practice area and then details from those laws.
• Being well versed in laws from your educational background would help you. For example, if a candidate holds a master's degree, they can be asked about their dissertation topic.

Language

• Contrary to popular belief, having a command of the English language is not a prerequisite to clear interviews for judicial services. You can speak either in English or Hindi, whichever you are more comfortable with.
•  If you know both languages, it is advised to answer in the language you are asked. This can help you develop a better connection with the interview board.

Think before you answer

• Every time you are asked a question, I strongly recommend you to pause a few seconds, formulate an answer in your mind and only then answer it.
• This will minimise the possibility of error and will also convey a good impression.

Keep a smiling face and maintain eye contact.

• When you are in front of the interview board, make sure to keep a smile on your face. This will make you look relaxed and confident.
•  Do not forget to maintain eye contact with the interviewer/(s) while answering any question.

Apologise for not knowing an answer

•  If you cannot recall answering any question, rather than attempting to answer wrongly, politely apologise for not reidentifying correctly.
•  This method will not attract negative marking as the interview board understands that one cannot answer all their questions.
